Sundowners is between the towns of Cheste and Vilamarxant on the CV-50 . We recommend hiring a car to get around, but the local villages are just 5-10 minutes drive away. There is a trainline in Cheste which takes you directly into Valencia, and also metro stations within a 15 minute drive.
There is lots of walking available locally, with Sundowners being in the centre of the Area Recreativa la Pedrera del Rei and only a 10 minute walk to a secret 'bar in the woods' open at the weekends. From there you can explore the whole of the Parque Natural del Turia https://parcdelturia.es/el-parque/ on foot, bike or horse. From the villa, it’s just a 50 minute walk to the top of Les Rodanes with spectacular views across the countryside. The River Turia is the local river where you can find paddle boarding and kayaking, and locals can be found drifting down the rapids at Vilamarxant on their inflatables.
Fifteen minutes away is the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, which MotoGP fans will recognize as the Valencia GP track, but also hosts a whole range of other activities.
Our favourite beach is at El Saler, which is also close to the Parc Natural de la Albufera. It's just a 25 min drive from Sundowners and has a few restaurants and amenities close to the beach as well as in the town just a short walk away.
Further south there are the towns of Cullera and Gandia, both of which have a much more seaside town feel with shops and markets as well as many restaurants.
The lakes and waterfalls at Loriguilla are definitely worth a visit, with clear blue waters for swimming and paddle boarding.
Cueva del Turche has a spectacular waterfall and pool, which is very popular, but the short walk to the top of the falls is well worth it for a more private setting.
There is lots to see and do in Valencia, from restaurants to shopping, a harbour, football or aquarium. There is also access to beaches, surfing and sailing activity from the city.
The surrounding area is perfect for both road and off-road cycling.
Our situation in the centre of a natural park makes for some great walks straight from the front door.
The nearby Turia river and the lakes at Loriguilla are a great place to paddle, in addition to paddle and surfing from the nearby beaches
Skippered and bareboat charters are available from Valencia, where you are free to let the wind take you on a journey.
Whether it's the calm waters of Loriguilla, the rapids of Turia, or the waterfalls of Cueva del Turche, there is a swimming scene for everyone.
There are a wide selection of horse riding opportunities from lessons to countryside hacks within easy driving distance.
With the Valencia race track just minutes away, it's well worth the visit to the final race of the MotoGP calendar.
Below are some links to places recommended to us by previous guests. We will continue to add to this over time.
There is a great tourist centre in Riba-Roja which will point you in the direction of lots of local attractions. They also have an interactive map here (Spanish required!) Riba-roja interactive map The tourist information centre was discovered by recent visitors to the villa, towards the end of their stay. They wish they’d found it earlier (see also lots of link at the bottom of this doc to places they recommended).
Vaencial - There are trains direct from Cheste (look for trains to Bunol for return journey), or a metro from Riba roja. You can also drive into Valenica. Please tell us about your experience of the best way to explore the city
